Objectives

Overall objective:

To promote collective action among small producers and staff from research, education and extension services in the national agricultural and forestry innovation system of Bolivia for improving technology dissemination and adoption.

Specific objectives:

  • To manage participatory tools for the design, implementation and dissemination of technologies/good agricultural practices.
  • To design and implement action learning curricula (learning by doing), to help maximize the adoption of best practices of small producers.
  • To increase the impact of local innovation platforms.

Objectives

Objetivo general:
Promover acción colectiva entre pequeños productores y personal de instituciones que prestan servicios de investigación, educación y extensión en el sistema de innovación agropecuaria y forestal nacional de Bolivia, con el propósito de mejorar la difusión y adopción de tecnología.

Objetivos específicos:

  • Manejar herramientas participativas para el diseño, implementación y difusión de tecnologías/buenas prácticas agropecuarias
  • Diseñar e implementar un currículo de aprendizaje activo (aprender en la práctica), que contribuya a maximizar la adopción de mejores prácticas entre los pequeños productores.
  • Incrementar el impacto de las plataformas de innovación local.

ICRA's role

Training and coaching of actors in Bolivia’s innovation system was undertaken in the following areas:

  • Working in multi-stakeholder teams, various disciplines, various organizations
  • Understanding innovation as a change process of social transformation of knowledge and learning to produce productive, economic and social values
  • Applying the action learning approach, learning by doing in real contexts of innovation
  • Using the systems approach (systems thinking) and applying it in practice (ability to visualize and explain complexity)
  • Integrating the perspectives, knowledge and actions of different stakeholders around a common challenge
  • Promoting collective learning among different actors
  • Using a market (value chain) approach and apply it in practice
  • Identifying different ways of organizing innovation at the local level, innovation platforms and local forms of cooperation, and analyzing their strengths and weaknesses

ICRA's role

En las siguientes áreas se proporcionó capacitación y acompañamiento a los actores de los sistemas de innovación en Bolivia:

  •  Trabajar en equipos multisectoriales (diferentes disciplinas y organizaciones)
  • Entender la innovación como un proceso de cambio de transformación social de conocimiento y aprendizaje para generar valores productivos, económicos y sociales.
  • Aplicar el enfoque de aprendizaje activo, aprender en la práctica en contextos reales de innovación.
  • Usar el enfoque de sistemas (pensamiento de sistemas) y aplicarlo en la práctica (capacidad de visualizar y explicar la complejidad).
  • Integrar las perspectivas, el conocimiento y las acciones de distintas partes interesadas en torno a un reto común.
  • Promover aprendizaje colectivo entre diferentes actores.
  • Usar un enfoque de mercado (cadenas de valor) y aplicarlo en la práctica.
  • Identificar diferentes formas de innovación organizacional en el ámbito local, plataformas de innovación y formas locales de cooperación, y analizar sus fortalezas y debilidades.
     

Achievements to date

In 2014, a total of 60 professionals, from research, extension, government and non-governmental bodies and farmers received training, 20 from Tarija, 20 from Cochabamba, 10 from Chuquisaca and 10 from Santa Cruz. In their evaluation, participants expressed that the interactive learning process gave them concrete tools and relevant methodologies that will help them improve their performance in their daily work.  

In 2015, a total of 261 persons (109 women, 152 men) professionals from research, extension, government and non-governmental bodies, universities, vocational centres and farmers received training; 65 were from Tarija, 37 from Cochabamba, 79 from Chuquisaca and 85 from Santa Cruz. During the project period a total of 75 business models were strengthened in 27 districts. In the third and last module 10 of the business models had been negotiated with banks as such Banco Union, CIDRE, BDP and FIE. In the evaluation of the trainings, participants expressed that the interactive learning process provided them with concrete tools and relevant methodologies that will help them improve their capacities to generate more income and employment in the Bolivian context.

Achievements to date

En 2014, recibieron capacitación 60 profesionales de instituciones de investigación y extensión, así como de organismos públicos y organizaciones no gubernamentales, además de agricultores: 20 de Tarija, 20 de Cochabamba, 10 de Chuquisaca y 10 de Santa Cruz. En su evaluación, las/los participantes expresaron que a través del proceso de aprendizaje interactivo obtuvieron herramientas concretas y metodologías relevantes que les ayudarán a mejorar su desempeño en su trabajo cotidiano.
