About ICRAThe International Centre for development oriented Research in Agriculture (ICRA) is an independent non-profit organisation, founded in 1981 by European members of the Consultative Group on International Research (CGIAR), a consortium of donor agencies and other institutions committed to ending world hunger, poverty and environmental decline.For many years ICRA has been supported by the governments of France (MAE), the Netherlands (LNV), Switzerland (SDC) and the United Kingdom (DFID). Representatives from these and other countries form ICRA's independent Board of Trustees. We aim to stimulate rural innovation in the South by strengthening the abilities of people and organisations in research, education and development to collaborate and learn from each other. Our focus is on strengthening the capacity of national partners to link technology, market development, policy and social organisation to promote the competitiveness of small-scale enterprises, ensure the sustainable use of natural resources, and reduce poverty. Our small international and multidisciplinary staff has extensive experience in training, rural research and institutional change in Asia, Africa and Latin America. We are based in the Netherlands, France, and the UK, as well as at our regional offices in South Africa (hosted by the Agricultural Research Council) and Venezuela (hosted by the Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Agrícolas). We also make use of the expertise of a wide range of collaborating institutions in developed and developing countries. Our headquarters and the Anglophone programme are located in Wageningen (the Netherlands), where we are hosted by Wageningen International (WI)).
