As a professional in tertiary agricultural education you are expected to prepare competent graduates for the job market. In addition, you are requested to do action research that contributes to innovation for food security, and provide services for rural communities that support inclusive development.

How do you provide useful services to the surrounding community? How do you make research relevant for farmers and agribusiness so you better can attract funding?

Join ICRA’s course to find the answers to those challenges. Brace yourself for three challenging weeks with a range of activities such as trainer-assisted group sessions, role plays, case studies and excursions to education institutes.

Course structure

Week 1: Linking education with societal needs 
Main topics:
• Labour market oriented curricula development 
• Competency-based assessment
• Interactive session design and delivery

Week 2: Learning in real-life contexts and creating meaningful community services
Main topics:
• Problem and practice-based learning
• Academic consultancy training and science shop
• Several study tours to Dutch educational institutes 
• Science shop

Week 3: Action research, linking development and education
Main topics:
• Innovation as a learning process
• Stakeholder involvement and role of the researcher Real life example in the Netherlands: study tour

Target audience

The course is specially designed for people working in tertiary agricultural and rural education. Candidates should be proficient in English, have at least five years professional experience, preferably in tertiary agricultural and rural education and related fields, and have approval of their institution to participate.

Application deadline for scholarships:  22 March 2017. After that, you may still apply to attend this course till 5 September 2017 if you are able to secure funds yourself.

Applicants who arrange their own financial support for participation face less competition and have a bigger chance of getting selected. The chance of being awarded a fellowship is generally slim as there are many applicants for the fellowship funds. We advise you to look for funds from your own organisation or from other sources.
